Dear Beatty Parents/Guardians and Students:

Welcome, new Gordon H. Beatty Middle School families and students to the 2020-2021 school  year. Our theme this school year is "Growing Together". Everyone has been hard at work this summer reconfiguring our school district from a K-6 and 7-8 school system to our new model of K-5th and 6th-8th grade schools. Additionally, construction is moving forward with our physical education locker rooms, office reconfiguration and brand new blacktop sports area.

We plan on starting the first three weeks, Aug. 11 – Aug. 28 of the new school year with our Distance Learning instructional delivery model while we continue to monitor the health climate within Orange County. If a local health jurisdiction (LHJ) has been on the State monitoring list within the last 14 days, the school and school district must conduct distance learning only, until the LHJ has been removed from the monitoring list for at least 14 days.  Orange County is still currently on the monitoring list. For more information on the BPSD Reopening Plan, please visit the following link: BPSD.us

As we begin this year with Distance Learning, it is important to note that it will look a little different than it did at the end of the school year.  You can expect the following this year:

  1. Daily live interaction with the teacher at scheduled times
  2. Recorded teacher videos
  3. Required daily attendance
  4. Graded assignments
  5. Minimum daily instruction of 240 minutes (combination of teacher instruction and assigned work)
  6. All students will receive an iPad
  7. Gordon H. Beatty Middle school will be using Canvas for our digital platform in all classes

All parent communication will take place via Parent Square.  Please make sure your email address and/or phone numbers are correct. Our front office will be open for assistance by phone, and in person visits will be by appointments only beginning on July 27, 2020.

The first day of school is August 11, 2020.  You will receive more information in the near future about iPad distribution, schedules, and your students schedule.
